Last month we posted on this space about our offer to extend support to AmeriCares in its efforts to provide relief and assistance to those most affected by Hurricane Sandy. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to delivering ongoing humanitarian aid and emergency response to people in need across the world. We decided to participate in a donation program for this important humanitarian organization, giving our sales associates and staff members the chance to make a difference by contributing at www.americares.org/williampitt. We said that our three partner firms would match those donations made through the end of 2012.
It is now our pleasure to reveal the results of our donation program. Our company contributed approximately $28,000 to AmeriCares in the month of December, with our employees and agents offering nearly $14,000 and our company matching that dollar amount. We are very proud of all of our sales associates and staff members for their generous gifts, and are thrilled to be part of a team that will lend a helping hand when a crisis such as Hurricane Sandy occurs. Being part of a business environment comprised of individuals who are so caring is truly something to be thankful for.
The donations will be used by AmeriCares to provide relief aid for victims of Sandy, with 98% of the funds raised used directly toward these efforts. AmeriCares’ Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund has already made a tangible impact for those most afflicted by this disastrous storm. We are pleased that our donations will assist AmeriCares in the important work they have been doing in the wake of the hurricane, such as delivering emergency medical aid, bottled water and other relief supplies to people in affected areas of New Jersey,Connecticut and New York City, including Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Our company has worked with AmeriCares in the recent past, helping the organization to provide aid and medical assistance to impoverished citizens of Guatemala. Indeed, we have a rich history of supporting significant local causes and charitable organizations. We are delighted to have the opportunity to assist those in need, and as we enter 2013, we look forward to maintaining our humanitarian spirit.
