Serving as the capstone to a 20-year career in real estate, Rick Distel joined the Washington Depot office of Sotheby's International Realty in 2008, where he has become a consistent top-producing agent.  Distel brings an unmatched passion for marketing luxury homes to the Litchfield County marketplace. Leveraging the power of the Sotheby’s International Realty brand is a cornerstone of his strategy.

After moving to New York and receiving his MBA in Real Estate and Finance from NYU's Leonard N. Stern School of Business, he worked as a consultant at Ernst & Young, where he specialized in large-scale asset acquisitions and dispositions, performed due diligence and strategic advisory services, and provided valuations of closely held real estate companies. In 2000, he co-founded a private real estate investment firm that invested in high value-added opportunities across property types, primarily focused in New York's downtown neighborhoods. He has been involved in virtually every aspect of the business, from property management to development, construction management to financing, and residential and commercial leasing.

Distel brings an unstoppable energy to his business.  He is always implementing new tools to uniquely promote his listings.  Distel was the first agent in the marketplace to embrace social media as a marketing tool, and was also the first agent in the market to utilize video and drone photography.  He outlines a marketing strategy for each listing and then supplements it once it is implemented to fine tune each listing based on current market conditions, traffic and showing feedback.  He allocates substantial funds to each listing, supplementing corporate dollars where necessary in order to give his listings maximum exposure.

Highly regarded by his peers throughout the Sotheby’s International Realty network, Distel acts as an Ambassador to the brand.  He has successfully mentored several new agents in the Litchfield County marketplace, he presents a training module to new agents throughout the William Pitt | Sotheby’s International Realty and Julia B. Fee | Sotheby’s International Realty network, and he has been a frequent guest speaker at offices in Fairfield County, Westchester County and Manhattan.  In 2016 Distel was a speaker at an exclusive event for top producers from Manhattan, CT and Westchester held at the Westchester Country Club. One topic he is well known for is his talk titled “The Art of the Showing” which dives into the importance of private showings.

The Rick Distel | Private Client Group was formed in 2016 to underscore a commitment to delivering a superior client experience. Each member of the team embodies this unwavering commitment. Distel is also a licensed salesperson in the state of California, where he is licensed with HOM | Sotheby’s International Realty’s Palm Springs office.

Rick and his husband live at Hedgelawn Farm, a certified organic farm in Washington, Connecticut which provides fruits and vegetables to local eateries and to the community. They have two incredible rescue pups: Cooper and Dodger.
