Kim-Marie Mullin of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Speaks at LGBT Housing Discrimination Symposium

Hartford, Conn. (August 15, 2014) —William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty today announced that Kim-Marie Mullin, Director of Training, will be a guest speaker at the Symposium on New State and Federal Protections Against LGBT Discrimination in Housing, to be held on August 20, 2014 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, Conn. The event is hosted by the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), and is sponsored by Sotheby’s International Realty(R) and Realogy.

Topics at the daylong educational event will include: how housing discrimination is constituted, its impact on LGBT individuals and communities, protections provided by federal programs as well as state law, how homeless LGBT people are affected, resources for protecting housing rights, and the obligations of housing providers and lenders.

“It is tremendously important to continue to raise awareness and advocate for the equal housing opportunity rights of members of the LGBT community,” said Mullin. “I feel deeply honored that I was invited to present at this important symposium.”

Mullin was asked to speak by the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP), of which she is a member. NAGLREP, a stakeholder at HUD, is a LGBT-friendly Realtor referral network that advocates on behalf of the rights of the LGBT community with regard to housing and discrimination laws. NAGLREP was responsible for the successful proposal that the National Association of Realtors (NAR) include sexual orientation and gender identity in its Code of Ethics.

Mullin is also a member of the Greater Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CTGLC).

At William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, Mullin is responsible for developing training programs for company sales associates that focus on utilizing technology to complement and propel traditional business methods, while still maintaining the personal touch at the center of the agent/client relationship.

Kim-Marie Mullin can be reached via phone at (203) 644-1477 or via email at [email protected].
