William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Agent Renovates, Rebuilds and Lists Farmhouse Property

Agent Susan Vanech transforms 1950s ranch into modern farmhouse

Westport, Conn. – April 14, 2014 William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty agent Susan Vanech has just listed a Westport, Conn. property that she personally renovated and rebuilt, transforming the original 1950s ranch into a modern farmhouse-style property. The property is being offered at $1,598,000.

Offering 4,000 square feet of living area, five bedrooms, and four and a half baths, the just-completed, two and a half-story residence is set on a flat half acre. The design features a farmhouse-style exterior with a reconfigured interior that blends old and new. The home retains its original sunken living room, with the addition of radiant-heat Italian porcelain tile floors flanked by barn doors to the family room.

Additional details include a hand-hammered copper soaking tub with nickel finish, a selection of doors that were taken from film director and producer Barry Levinson’s former Redding, Conn. estate, an old-fashioned high tank toilet hung on a wall of vertical tile, and a large stairwell window surrounded by wood that lends the appearance of being whitewashed and reclaimed from a barn.

Vanech and her family specialize in purchasing distressed properties, renovating them and then reselling them. The modern farmhouse is their sixth project.

“As one who enjoys taking homes that need work and making them lovable and beautiful, I am particularly proud of my latest project,” Vanech said. “Architecturally, the residence has gorgeous clean lines, open spaces flooded with light, and a variety of unique design choices that make it stand apart from other new constructions. Overall, the house is an eclectic mix of style and sophistication, and I am excited to bring it to the market.”

Vanech chronicles notable aspects of the renovation process on her projects in a series of YouTube videos called “House Hoppers.” For a look at the work that went into the modern farmhouse, visit the latest episode of “House Hoppers” here.
