The town of Claverack, comprising about 48 square miles, is centrally located in beautiful Columbia County, New York. Its name is a derivative of the Dutch word, “Klaverakker” which means “Clover Reach” or “Clover Fields.” 

The town, with its many hamlets and a village, is rich in history, as evidenced by the lovely, 18th century homes which dot the community, including the circa 1786 William Henry Ludlow House. Additional historic sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places include the Claverack Free Library, the Double-Span Whipple Bowstring Truss Bridge and Trinity Episcopal Church.

More than 6,000 residents live in communities and locations throughout Claverack. The town comprises the village of Philmont in the northeast part of town, Red Mills, a site east of Claverack village and the hamlets of Brick Tavern, Churchtown, Claverack, Hollowville, Martindale, Mellenville and Upper Hollowville.

Residents enjoy easy access to Albany, Boston and New York City. The Taconic State Parkway traverses north to south through the town’s eastern portion.
