New Lebanon, situated in the northeast corner of Columbia County, comprises 36 square miles. Its eastern town line borders Berkshire County, Mass. The town, which has deep roots in Shaker history, is home to about 2,305 residents who enjoy the diversity of its hamlets and wealth of community events and activities. Formed from the town of Canaan in 1818, New Lebanon was formerly the home of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Society. Today, many of the historic structures, several listed on the National Register of Historic Places, have been either preserved as museums, or converted into various uses.  Situated 24 miles southeast of Albany, New Lebanon comprises the smaller hamlets of Lebanon Springs, New Britain, New Lebanon Center, West Lebanon and New Lebanon. It is also home to a residential spiritual community and conference center known as The Abode of the Message, The Theater Barn, a nonprofit summer stock theater, Hand Hollow Conservation Area, a heritage center and Tannery Pond Concerts, among a wealth of other popular attractions.
