Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty Honored at My Sisters’ Place Annual Spring Benefit

Gala event raises over $600,000 to support victims of domestic violence

White Plains, N.Y. – April 19, 2016 – Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm was recently honored by the Westchester County-based non-profit My Sisters’ Place during its annual spring benefit, “Still Behind Closed Doors.” The company was recognized with the “Voices of Change” award for its continued support of the organization’s mission to end domestic violence and human trafficking. The event, held on April 13 at the Ritz Carlton in White Plains, N.Y., raised over $600,000 toward the cause, surpassing its goal by more than $100,000.

Guest speaker Sara Mahoney, who was also honored, delivered a speech citing the importance of the organization’s work and its history in the community. Mahoney noted that as recently as the 1970s, women and children in abusive relationships had few resources with little local support, and that Westchester County developed the first domestic violence shelter in the country during that period. Mahoney drove the point home that organizations like My Sisters’ Place have effected dramatic change by instituting support systems and changing attitudes toward domestic violence, but that there is still much more work to do.

Founded in 1976, My Sisters’ Place supports victims of domestic violence and human trafficking by providing dependable advocacy, shelter, legal services and educational opportunities, as well as an overall guide to prevention. Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty has been a proud supporter since 2014, and has worked to engage thousands of people in the cause through community-based events including “A Taste of Rye” and “A Taste of Larchmont,” local restaurant crawls that have raised nearly $100,000.

In addition to being honored, the company participated in the spring gala through its silent auction, donating a special “Taste of Westchester” gift basket comprised of items and gift certificates contributed by local businesses and restaurants. The basket raised $2,600 for the event on its own. Other silent auction items included passes to shows and dinners in New York and Westchester, a Caribbean cruise, and signed New York Giants jerseys along with a “training day” with players, several of which were in attendance at the event.

The Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty committee who headed the company’s involvement with the gala included Rye brokerage team members Pati Holmes, Liz Bradley, Susan McDonnell and Linda Darer.

“I am so proud that our company has been able to make an impact by supporting this amazing non-profit,” said Pati Holmes. “My Sisters’ Place gives back so much to our beloved community. I thank everyone at Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty for their heartfelt support of the critical work this organization performs every day.”
