William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Agent Susan Swidler Invited to Speak at Academy of Information Technology & Engineering Career Week

Stamford sales associate and mechanical engineer discusses the pros and cons of being a woman in technology

Stamford, Conn. (May 2, 2016) — William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty today announced that Susan Swidler, an agent in the firm’s Stamford brokerage and mechanical engineer, was chosen as a speaker at the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) career week in Stamford. Swidler discussed the topic of being a woman in technology during the event, which marked the 8th annual AITE Spring College Affair.

At the event, Swidler discussed the pros and cons of being a woman in the technology industry. She focused on how her gender impacted her own ambitions, as well as experiences with colleagues, friends and family.

“Being a woman in technology gives you a unique opportunity to make a substantial contribution to society,” said Swidler. “Women tend to be networkers and community builders. With this in mind, I uncovered how this ability, combined with life’s other factors, tends to impact your decisions in this chosen field.”

The event, which was open to all high school students, additionally included Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Andrew J. McDonald as the keynote speaker, and provided program information, as well as strong networking opportunities and resources. College representatives were also in attendance to discuss future options and answer any questions.

Swidler has a bachelor of engineering degree from State University at Stony Brook and a master of mechanical engineering degree from MIT. Prior to her career in real estate, Swidler spent 29 years in telephony, starting at Bell Laboratories, followed by NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon. She worked in hardware and software quality assurance, new product introduction, program management and project management. Swidler is currently a resident of Stamford, where she has lived with her family for 31 years.
