William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Announces Sale of The Inn at Mystic

New owners plan to renovate and grow business of renowned historic inn

Mystic, Conn. (March 28, 2014) —William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty today announced that the company has sold the Inn at Mystic, a renowned local inn on 15 acres that has operated since 1963. Essex agents Colette Harron and Rick Weiner had the listing, which sold for $5,350,000.

Offering 67 rooms and over 45,000 square feet in total, the property has two hotel buildings with rooms crafted in a turn-of-the-century design style; a Colonial Revival mansion built in 1904, with orchard views; the Flood Tide Restaurant, featuring high-elevation water views and a large space for events; and a private gatehouse for two, which has hosted past honeymooning guests Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Comprising six contiguous parcels of land, the grounds include a pond, bluestone patios, a tennis court and a swimming pool.

The purchasers, Timothy J. Brown and Michael D’Amato, have announced plans to complete a $1 million renovation involving work on the guest rooms, an expansion on the lobby and a redesign of the restaurant that will result in three separate areas, including a lounge, a high-end dining experience and a more low-key section. In addition, Brown and D’Amato will grow the inn’s event business, which includes weddings, corporate events and potentially music events.

“This four-season hotel destination is an extraordinary piece of property, and I’m excited to see that the new owners intend to build upon an already thriving business,” said Harron. “The property has everything: stunning scenic grounds, luxurious accommodations, and close proximity to all of the major attractions in Mystic.”

“Exploring this lovely property is a treat for the senses,” said Weiner. “The English-style gardens, beautiful spring colors, surrounding woods and incredible views over Fisher’s Island Sound and Mystic Harbor all make for a one-of-a-kind visiting experience.”
