Madison, Conn. (July 31, 2014) — William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty recently organized a tag sale event to raise funds in support of Amanda’s Angels, a local organization that helps support community members Amanda and Chris Bernier and their unborn first child. Amanda, a North Madison volunteer firefighter and emergency medical first responder, was recently diagnosed with the most aggressive form of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS.
The tag sale took place on Saturday, July 26th from 9 AM until 3 PM and was spearheaded by agent Heidi Pastore of the Madison brokerage. The office reached out to family, friends, customers, clients and the local community in support of Amanda and Chris during this difficult time. With pregnancy accelerating the progression of ALS, in just a few short weeks Amanda can no longer walk and has lost over fifty percent of her respiratory capacity. She continues to remain strong, though, for the sake of her unborn child who was recently announced to be a girl.
“There has been a great outpouring of love and support for this tragic situation,” said Kathy Mitchell, manager of the William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Madison brokerage. “The the least we could do was to give back to this dedicated couple just a portion of what they have given our local community throughout the years with their unyielding strength and dedication to service.”
The Madison office received an overwhelming amount of tag sale items prior to the event, and worked for three days to unwrap, price and categorize each item for the sale. “The amount of local support we received was amazing,” said Pastore. “Agents, families, clients and friends were all on hand in the early morning and eager to help set up. Local volunteers came throughout the day, as well, all more than willing to give back to this wonderful couple and their little girl.”
The sale raised $8,060, with the firm donating an additional $1,000 for a grand total of $9,060 and money is still coming in. The money has been donated directly to Chris and Amanda Bernier.
