William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Lists Ragamont House in Salisbury, Conn.

Owner Pete Hathaway, a former director with Sotheby’s auction house, ran historic inn as bed and breakfast and event venue

Salisbury, Conn. (May 27, 2014) — A 19th-century Greek Revival residence run as a bed and breakfast and event venue by owner Pete Hathaway, a former director of European furniture at Sotheby’s auction house in New York City for more than 20 years, is the exclusive listing of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, the firm has announced. Lakeville agent Mimi Harson has the listing, which is offered at $2,250,000.

Originally built in 1830, Ragamont House was an inn until Hathaway bought the property and converted it into a private residence in 2002. In recent years Hathaway has utilized the property for specialty events. For a few years after he bought it, he also ran it as Enterprise New Life, a substance abuse relapse prevention residential retreat.

With 7,612 square feet in total, the home has six bedrooms and six and a half baths. Historic details are preserved throughout. The front double doors open to an entrance hall, which features a fireplace and black and white marble floor, and opens to the right to a formal living room with wood floors and fireplace. A Chinese Chippendale-style balustrade leads to the second floor, where the master suite offers a vaulted ceiling, spacious bath and private balcony. Additional living spaces include a dining room, library, sitting room and light-filled kitchen. A brick and granite-floored back porch has dining and sitting areas as well as a wood-burning fireplace. The terraced one-acre grounds include a lawn and gardens surrounded by plantings.

“This iconic residence exudes warmth and elegance throughout. The quality is obvious from the moment you walk inside,” said Harson. “Located in the heart of the village, the enchanting property is a private oasis with a storied history. I am excited to have the opportunity to market such an extraordinary offering.”
