Tour De Force
This completely unique and original property was inspired by the magnificent view it beholds. The architect and owner (a renowned Madison Avenue creative director/artist) worked in concert to design a house to (1) embrace the glorious vista and (2) be worthy of the setting. This house, set on 42+ acres, succeeds on both criteria. The house is nestled into the hillside to overlook the valley and lake below and the distant hills beyond. Bespoke detailing is extraordinary throughout the entire 7200 square feet. Raised paneled walls and wainscoting, elaborate molding and window frames, cabinetry, beamed vaulted ceilings, fireplace mantels, balusters, tray ceilings, light fixtures – all custom designed and built. Brass door fixtures were purchased in London. The lower level hallway flooring is made of French roof tiles. Stone from the property was used for some fireplaces. The oak flooring came from trees cleared for the building site. Rooms are generously proportioned, exuding a comfortable elegance. There are 8 fireplaces. Several rooms open to expansive terraces, covered patios and/or a screened-in porch for the best vantages.
The kitchen and the adjacent family room provide a great gathering space. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped for the serious cook and has an eat-in area for casual dining. The family room with a vaulted beamed ceiling has a huge stone fireplace. For more formal occasions there are magnificent dining and living rooms. The spectacular main level master bedroom suite has 2 walk-in closets and 2 luxurious marble bathrooms.
On the lower level, that opens to the view, are a gym with a sauna and steam shower, game room, and wine cellar/tasting room.
Energy efficiency was addressed with zoned heating/cooling, a full house generator, double-paned windows and doors.
In addition, there is a guesthouse, built to the same exacting standards as the main house. Sited below the main house is the infinity-edged pool and pool house.
