Sotheby's Supports The Sole: The Story

A couple of our managers are giving back to the community and are asking for your support. Adele Unger, a Sandy Hook mom and sales manager of our Newtown and Danbury brokerages, has joined Pati Holmes, a veteran Sole Ryeder and sales manager of our Rye brokerage, to walk the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, along with the incredible women of Rye and Sandy Hook who are spreading hope and love throughout the community. Everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, whether it be a family member, a friend or an acquaintance, and while there are many support groups and ways to raise money to find a cure, not all groups comprise of a supportive network quite like this. The Sole Ryeders have formed a family bond and sisterhood among their local friends which has grown throughout the years, and recently inspired another connected group called The Sole Sisters.

The Sole Ryeders, are a Rye-based group of mothers that have been actively joining together to do various compassionate works for their community over the past four years. They recently reached out to the Newtown moms on Mother’s Day and hosted an activity-filled day at the beach. 107 Sandy Hook mothers were touched first-hand by the generosity of the Sole Ryeders, and experienced a day of much needed compassion and healing. One grateful Newtown mother talks about the impact of the Sole Ryders on this day for her; “These women went through so much to make sure we would have a nice day, they pampered us from head toe. No expectation, nothing in return. Just wanting us to know we’re not alone.”

After experiencing the bond and impact of the Sole Ryeders first-hand, 17 Newtown mothers have been inspired to pay-it-forward and to work towards the Sole Ryeder’s cause to help find a cure for breast cancer, and have named themselves the “Sole Sisters.” The Sole Ryeders and the Sole Sisters have a goal to raise $200,000 annually to support regional efforts. Our goal for “Sotheby’s Supporting the Sole” is to raise $20,000 to help each of the 17 Sandy Hook mothers, aka Sole Sisters, with a portion of their sponsorship to walk alongside the Sole Ryeders in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on October 18-19. The combined 53 women will walk a total of 2,067 miles, and extra funds will go to local breast cancer awareness and research support services, such as Ann’s Place in Danbury and other Westchester cancer support services. Paul Breunich, William Pitt and Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty‘s president and CEO, has kicked off our efforts with a wonderful donation of $6,000!

Please help the Sandy Hook moms, aka The Sole Sisters, build their friendship, support network and pay-it-forward by helping to raise enough money for all to walk together with the Sole Ryeders, in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on October 18-19. Help them move forward, and choose love and hope, while at the same time helping those affected by cancer.
