Fairfield County

Bordered by Long Island Sound and enjoying close commuting proximity to New York City, this culturally diverse area offers great dining, cultural gems and plenty of recreational adventures.

Fairfield County, with its affluent Gold Coast, is the state’s southwestern-most county. The most densely populated of all Connecticut counties, it comprises 24 cities and towns within an 837-square-mile area, 25 percent of which is water. The county is bordered to the north by Litchfield County, to its east by New Haven County, to the southwest by New York’s Westchester County and to the west by Putnam County. Its scenic, southernmost border graces Long Island Sound, making the area a haven for water-related activities.

Fairfield County is home to four of Connecticut’s largest cities – Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk and Danbury – as well as some of the state’s wealthiest towns, including Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien, Weston and Westport. Residents enjoy a wealth of cultural attractions including several symphony orchestras, Westport Country Playhouse, the Connecticut Grand Opera in Stamford and the Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport. The county is conveniently served by commuter rail service, which allows for an easy commute to Grand Central Terminal, and two regional airports – Danbury Municipal and the Igor Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford – are located here. The truck-free Merritt Parkway, with its historic bridges, is a National Scenic Byway, which runs parallel through Fairfield County.
