Pelham


The suburban town of Pelham in Westchester County is located about 14 miles northeast of midtown Manhattan. The town is named for Thomas Pell, who purchased the area in 1654. He named his manor “Pelham” to honor Pelham Burton, his tutor.

Pelham is home to a number of New York City commuters who enjoy the many cultural and social aspects of this 2.2-square-mile community. Pelham, with a population of about 12,400, comprises two independently incorporated villages: Pelham and Pelham Manor. The villages share numerous public services including schools and recreational activities. The town is home to one high school, one middle school and four elementary schools, all belonging to the Pelham Union Free School District.

Pelham is conveniently located close to Amtrak’s New Rochelle stop, and is serviced by Metro-North’s New Haven line.
