John Harney is one of the most celebrated veteran real estate brokers in the Litchfield Hills.  John grew up in Salisbury.   His parents, John and Elyse, managed the White Hart Inn from the 1960's to the early 1980's.   His father later founded the internationally recognized Harney & Sons Fine Teas.   John has personally closed over 100 million dollars in real estate sales. His graciousness, honesty, and reputation for integrity makes him easy to talk to - and impossible to forget. John dedicates each day to hislove for real estate, working diligently for clients, and enjoying the unsurpassed beauty of northwestern Connecticut.

After graduating from Williams  College, John served as an infantry officer in the United States Marines Corps. He later spent time in Denver, Colorado, working for an oil exploration company, and then worked with homeless and troubled youths throughout the west. In 1999, John returned to his family and hometown, and joined forces with his mother in selling real estate. After owning his own company for seven years, John joined William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, the largest Sotheby’s affiliate in the world, to offer the powerful reach of global connections to his local clients.  John feels that each real estate listing deserves the power of top-notch marketing that extends beyond local borders.

John has earned a strong reputation for carefully handling each client’s diverse needs.  He can usually be found showing houses big and small, pullingdeeds at town hall, walking land and farms, or hiking the mountains of NW Connecticut. John knows the Litchfield Hills like the back of his hand, and is the one to trust when considering a purchase or sale of real estate in Litchfield County.

Testimonials

“John Harney is a realtor of distinction. He is an experienced professional who goes far beyond the business of real estate to the heart of finding a home. He always has a ready smile and an ease of manner that is encouraging to the client, and it dispels the tension of this complicated business. We came to John with the difficult task of selling our poorly situated house and relocating us to another house in the same town. We didn’t have much hope of this happening smoothly, but John was always reassuring. In three months he had done both. On the same day we closed on the sale of our house and the purchase of another. Through it all John was positive and hopeful, a factor that we came to appreciate through each step of the twin deals. We highly recommend John Harney and his dedicated associates. Other colleagues in the real estate business that we talked with also had great respect for him. In short he is a qualified, experienced realtor who is most of all genuine.” “Working with John Harney was a pleasure because he is skillful, experienced, and very gracious. He knows everyone needed to do the necessary inspections and the rules of the game so everything works smoothly. John helped us throughout the process of selling my mother's home & land in ways that were above and beyond our expectations and sold our family home at a good price in a difficult market. In business today many people are out for themselves; John Harney totally working for you.”

“John Harney is an excellent broker and the epitome of what one hopes to find when working with a real estate professional. He is knowledgeable, steadfast, devoted and personable while representing ones interests in all aspects of the transaction. John found us what we needed to fulfill our family needs in a home and through the process made us feel welcome and instantly part of the community”

My family and I had a wonderful experience with John. He was everything you could hope for in a realtor - honesty, integrity, professionalism and fairness. His open and easy manner were a pleasure to be around and his optimism and patience were welcome attributes during what can sometimes be a stressful process. He was always available to answer questions and demonstrated a thorough understanding of all aspects of the transaction. It was also immensely helpful to work with someone with deep ties to the community. If you work with John not only will you be working with a professional and knowledgeable broker but you'll also have the opportunity to meet a truly lovely person
