He purchased both the residence and nine acres of property in 1854 for $300. Adams’ son, Elbert S. Adams, inherited it in 1904. Elbert was known as an active Republican, and his political involvement led him to be appointed Postmaster of Norwalk by President Taft, a position he held for nine years.
