Breath-taking Panoramic Views
Come visit the iconic arts and crafts home of the renowned artist duo Seymour Chwast and Paula Scher! The design consists of medieval, romantic and folk styles that are evident as you explore this unique abode. Seymour, a major influencer of design and the direction of art for nearly a decade, was inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame. As a founding member of Push Pin, he helped fostered an adventurously eclectic aesthetic that revived Victorian, art nouveau, and art deco (what Seymour dubbed his “Roxy Style”) and may have, at least in part, contributed to the demise of orthodox modernism. His understanding of art and architecture allowed him to fall in love with the historically significant design and a studio that offered him much inspiration. Perched with an extraordinary view of, and right of way access to, Washining Lake of the Twin Lakes in Salisbury. As a painter, graphic designer, and art educator, Paula has also been a large contributor in the art world. She and the house were featured in the Netflix © series Abstract where her contributions to the art world are highlighted. Paula has earned over 300 awards from international design associations and is known for logos such as Windows 8, Citibank, and Tiffany & Co.
This home has a heated in-ground pool and guest cottages. The beautifully situated lot showcases many marvelous perennial gardens. As you approach the house, you are immediately drawn to the grand hand-built stone entrance. A gracious foyer leads to the newly renovated chef's kitchen with top of the line appliances, adjacent to the formal dining room. The craftsman-style living room opens to the dramatic ivy covered wraparound porch. There are 3 working stone fireplaces. One in the downstairs living room, one in the dining room, and one in the upstairs family room. The upstairs great room contains a wall of windows that provides additional lake views. The bedrooms and bath suites are situated on this level. The airy, open, and spacious third level of the home is currently utilized as an art studio, but could easily be a huge master suite or 2 or more bedrooms. It features a porch with breath-taking panoramic views of the lake. Both guesthouses have working kitchens and there are numerous storage spaces in the basement.
