Neutral colors like white and grey are popular to incorporate into your home because they are universally appealing, but sometimes this style can get plain or boring. One solution HGTV recommends is to incorporate some contrast. The popular home and garden network recently interviewed some top design bloggers on what they are seeing as emerging trends this fall. “I continue to see high contrast as a very strong trend this fall,” says designer Traci Zeller. “The soft, muddy colors that were so popular have evolved into cleaner brights.” Another way to incorporate contrast with bits of bright hues is by adding throws, ottomans or even a bar tray for subtle pops of color.
Trim the Tree?
Have you noticed all of the holiday decorations in the malls and shops already? It seems the holiday season comes earlier every year. If you cannot wait to put up your Christmas tree, then you may be in luck. No, we’re not suggesting you break out the lights and ornaments just yet, but rather take a look at this emerging trend. House Beautiful highlights “Autumn Trees,” which are essentially Christmas trees that are decorated with fall themed elements like pine cones, leaves and chestnuts. It’s a theme that would work just as well in a country house as it would in a contemporary, pared-back living space. An autumn-themed Christmas tree isn’t entirely a new idea. A quick browse through the web shows that “fall” or “Thanksgiving” Christmas trees are already popular decoration ideas. Halloween-themed Christmas trees have also been gaining momentum in the last few years.

Another popular trend to pay attention to this fall is the use of geometric shapes and patterns in your home. Forbes laid out some trends that they are watching this autumn. The geometric pattern is always trendy as you can use it in either a modern or a classic way. It’s classic because it originates from ancient roman marble floors, so it’s perfect for any home surrounded by antiques and velvet curtains. It can be also very 20th century because it reminds us the Art Deco 1920s skyscraper interiors, full of geometric marbles and brass surfaces.

Harvest season and fall go hand in hand. During the fall harvest farmers and artisans will reap the rewards of what they have been working on all year. You can embody this spirit by utilizing handcrafted décor in your home. According to Country Living, there’s a strong focus on the handmade, celebrating individual craftspeople and traditional, time-honored techniques and skills. From handcrafted furniture, hand-woven coppiced baskets, hand-carved spoons and hand-thrown ceramics, there are countless ways to celebrate handmade goods in your home.
