When Art and Real Estate Intersect

By Megan Montemarano

When great talent meets a passionate community, the outcome is usually beautiful. There is a rich history of art appreciation embedded in the core of the Sotheby’s International Realty brand, , and our Darien brokerage will be demonstrating that appreciation this weekend when it showcases the work of student artists from Darien High School during an artist reception this Sunday, January 22nd, 2017 from 3-6 PM. (And yes, it will be beautiful). In collaboration with the school’s Art Department, office team members will host monthly debuts and installations throughout the year, as well as provide the unique opportunity for students to visit the Sotheby’s Auction House in New York City.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Darien High School ranks among the top 15 schools in the state of Connecticut. Throughout the years, several students involved in the school’s art program have gone on to achieve successful art careers.

Just this past November, Upper Crust Bakery in Downtown Darien served as the site for the Darien Art Department’s annual student art show, where countless works of art adorned the walls with personal expressions, one-of-a-kind scenes and impressive creations. After seeing such talent on display and the local enthusiasm surrounding it, our Darien brokerage became determined to find a way to continue supporting gifted student artists in town. Having an already established fine art showcase series through our nearby Rowayton brokerage’s monthly Sundays at Sotheby’s art series, Darien brokerage manager Lynley Middleberg explained that it seemed only natural to bring a similar celebration to the Darien office.

“We share an incredible relationship with the world-renowned Sotheby’s Auction House, and recognize that this connection to art and history are wonderful opportunities that can, and should, be shared,” said Middleberg. “Something beautiful happens when art and real estate intersect, and we invite you to come and see for yourself.”

Our company’s exclusive relationship with the Sotheby’s Auction House will provide students with exposure to some of the world’s most notable art, antiques, jewelry and unspecifiedcollectibles, as well as a glimpse into the art auction business. Sotheby’s maintains a centuries-old global reputation in the valuation and sale of fine possessions, and is the world’s premier auction house.

All are welcome to stop by the upcoming January 22nd showcase event, which will be held in our Darien brokerage, located at 1057 Post Road. Refreshments will be served, and there will be opportunities to discuss the featured work with a number of student artists and teaching staff from Darien High School. Come out and support the young talent of Darien—Hope to see you there!
