The town of Deerfield in Franklin County, Mass., is a charming, low-key community steeped in history and considered to be one of the best places to live in the state. Situated 30 miles north of Springfield, Deerfield is a popular tourist destination. The town, which was the site of early 18th century colonial battles, today serves as the center of heritage tourism in the Pioneer Valley. Encompassing 33.4 square miles, the town is home to numerous museums, including an amazing 11 house museums. Historic Deerfield is designated as a National Historic Landmark district.

The community of 5,125 residents, settled near the Connecticut River in the 17th century, offers education to students through its numerous schools, which include the private secondary prep school, Deerfield Academy, Frontier Regional High School and Deerfield Elementary. Students also attend several private junior boarding schools, the co-ed Bement School, and the boys-only Eaglebrook School.

Deerfield offers residents a sparse, suburban feel and one of its most coveted state parks is the Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation, a public recreation area managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.  The park is great for hiking, picnics and mountain biking. Another popular local attraction is the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens, which offers visitors a tropical environment in all seasons.
